What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is abnormal excessive sweating that is out of proportion with temperature control. It is well documented that it can cause social and psychological embarrassment due to the visual appearance of sweat patches on clothes, obvious odours and general discomfort.
The most common places for this problem are armpits, hands, and feet. Although there are some medical therapies to help with this condition, they are not always fully effective. Botulinum toxin (Botox) provides a reliable, medium-to-long term improvement in symptoms and has been recommended by the NHS. Unfortunately, most areas of the U.K. will not have available NHS funding for this procedure.
How does Botox help?
Injections of botulinum toxin can be used to block the neural control of sweat glands. It has been shown to very effectively reduce the amount of sweating in an area whilst rarely having adverse effects.
There is no obligation to undergo treatment from your consultation and after the injections, which should take no longer than 30 minutes, you can carry on the day as normal.
What happens after my Botox?
There is no aftercare for this type of Botox injection. Repeat injections for this are usually spaced every 3-6 months, depending on how you react to the treatment.
