What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is abnormal excessive sweating that is out of proportion with temperature control. It is well documented that it can cause social and psychological embarrassment due to the visual appearance of sweat patches on clothes, obvious odours and general discomfort.
The most common places for this problem are armpits, hands, and feet. Although there are some medical therapies to help with this condition, they are not always fully effective. Botulinum toxin (Botox) provides a reliable, medium-to-long term improvement in symptoms and has been recommended by the NHS. Unfortunately, most areas of the U.K. will not have available NHS funding for this procedure.
How does Botox help?
Injections of botulinum toxin (Botox) can be used to block the neural control of sweat glands. It has been shown to very effectively reduce the amount of sweating in an area whilst rarely having adverse effects.
What happens on the day of my Botox treatment?
On the day of your free consultation, you will meet with one of our surgeons who will explore what you have in mind. We will analyse your needs and discuss the procedure and risks.
There is no obligation to undergo treatment from your free consultation and, as a principle in our clinic, we will always provide realistic expectations. After the Botox injections, which should take no longer than 45 minutes, you can carry on the day as normal.
What happens after my Botox?
After all treatments with Lumaesthetic Clinics, you will receive an aftercare leaflet, detailing what to expect, things to look out for and how to contact us. We suggest that you do not have large events (e.g. weddings) planned within two weeks of having Botox to hyperhidrosis areas.
If it is your first Botox with us, then two weeks after the injections, you will be invited to come back for a follow-up. Occasionally, you may need a top-up for optimal effect. This initial follow-up and top-up is provided free of charge. We also suggest repeat injections every 3-6 months, depending on how you react to the Botox.
