What Is a Lipoma?

Lipomas are soft, benign fatty lumps that grow beneath the skin. While harmless, they can grow larger and become uncomfortable. Depending on the area of the body affected, it can be functionally a problem.

How Is It Treated?

Cysts can be removed with a small surgical procedure performed under a little local anaesthetic. The exact description of the procedure will be discussed during the initial consultation. This initial injection to numb the area is a mild pinch and that will be the only discomfort. The lipoma is removed and skin repaired with small, dissolvable stitches. The incisions we make in our clinic are usually as minimal as possible, leading to a much smaller than usual scar.

Recovery

Most procedures take less than an hour and patients can return home with minor aftercare instructions.
